Fox 6 Now News in Texas is reporting that a mother and her boyfriend are facing charges after allegedly leaving three children abandoned with another child’s body.
Police said amber Kolar and 40-year-old David Hanson are charged with abandoning or endangering a child. The children were found in the Southside Village apartment of Garcia on Jan. 18.
While police recovered what appeared to be a 3-year-old’s body, fingerprint analysis was not successful in determining the body’s gender or identity. The body and other evidence are being sent to the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office to identify the child.
For the 3-year-old’s mother, it’s been a struggle to overcome her grief.
“As the week went on I didn’t really sleep, I went from crying to screaming, and then I went to sleep,” she said.
While Kolar and Hanson are now behind bars, Kolar has grief to deal with and how will she be able to cope?
“Hopefully I can find a job and get my life together,” she said.
Fox 6 Now reports that before leaving the apartment, Kolar told police that she and Hanson had fought multiple times. But police didn’t believe the couple’s stories.
“We are talking about an 8-year-old child that was behind the sofa, next to a mattress and bunk bed,” said Thomas A. Falk, director of the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Crisis Response Team. “There’s no way to get out. He was one body and the mattress was just filling up.”
A source close to the investigation told Fox 6 Now that the children had been in the apartment for about 24 hours.
The source said the children were witnessed by Hanson taking the body of the deceased child to a nearby neighborhood.
“He put the body on the ground, took the ashes of the body, put it in a dumpster and took it to a dumpster just a block away,” the source said.
The source added that Hanson, Kolar and another children, a 5-year-old girl and a 5-month-old boy, were living in the apartment without any electricity, water or food.
Kolar and Hanson’s 6-year-old daughter survived the night. The source said the children were taken to Children’s Medical Center Texas for monitoring.
The source said the remains of the deceased 3-year-old were sent to the medical examiner’s office for identification and a final autopsy report. The source didn’t know if the body would be returned to relatives.
Fox 6 Now reports that the couple’s other children are now in the custody of relatives.
