New York gun incident: Fox show shot with assault rifle

An assault rifle used in the shooting on the set of a movie in New York City, starring none other than Alec Baldwin, has been recovered.

While filming an episode of his TV show, America’s Funniest Home Videos, earlier this week, a man fired a gun while walking through Manhattan Beach, in California.

The man then tried to throw the gun in a canal, reports say, but it went in the wrong direction, ending up on a nearby rooftop and in the arms of a 30-year-old worker.

NBC News reported the shots came from an assault rifle, but those details were not confirmed. NBC spokeswoman Lauren Shephard said the New York Police Department (NYPD) has confirmed the gun is in their possession.

“Through the NYPD and along with our neighbors in Hermosa Beach, we feel absolutely confident that this is the weapon,” Hermosa Beach Police Chief Daniel Derner said.

A local catering company employee was sitting on a rooftop when the gun was pointed at him, but thankfully he wasn’t injured, he added.

NYPD officials are now trying to identify the shooter, who was a homeless man, and seek out any additional weapons that might have been used in the attack.
