The skier, now through to the next competition after recovering from an injury, talks to the Guardian about her fashion line, spring makeup and her recently launched charity foundation
Can you describe your fashion philosophy?
I’d rather enjoy fashion than worry about clothes because they don’t really give off energy or energy and movement, you know, which is what I love. I’m pretty easy going.
I’m the sort of person who has really evolved, and so my age is less of a concern now and I’ve really worked on my overall lifestyle, so I’d be very happy if the body improves as I’m getting older.
Does your lifestyle involve a lot of detoxing and cleansing?
I’m a very watery person anyway. My memory is bad so I love to drink as much water as I can. I drink enough vitamins as well.
Do you look for trends in fashion?
I mean, I have a few little ideas, but I’ve changed a lot my personal style recently to make it a little more “mature.” I like things that are embellished, like chokers, but it’s not something that’s going to be a big deal in the next year, I don’t think.
Where do you buy your clothes?
I shop in Bonwit Teller. I go to Lord & Taylor, New York, Nordstrom. If it’s appropriate, I go to H&M.
What are the first things you’ll buy for Christmas this year?
As soon as I get more time to shop I’ll buy a few things like hats and jackets.
Is there anything in particular you’d like to try?
Probably some winter jackets, but honestly I’ve tried everything so far.
Which item would you want but haven’t been able to find yet?
I have tried [a dress] I really like and they keep pulling it out. I was looking for shoes in the Far East recently. I have actually started a pair of shoes called “Lindsey Vonn”.
How do you relax?
This weekend I will be travelling to Venice for my 30th birthday and then I’m going to Hawaii for a couple of weeks. Then I go right back to training right away because I have so much to do until the year is up. I always need to pick at least a week or two weeks where I can just do nothing.
