One industry insider likened what they saw as the gaping hole of the 550-foot mega-yacht to something you’d find in a Manhattan parking garage.
On Monday evening, a private party was held on newly dubbed Legendary Liberation, a newly christened property offered at the Monaco Yacht Show as a concept for an upcoming mega-yacht that could cost up to $800 million. The design, by San Francisco-based Modern Yacht Design Group, has a combination of “grandeur, exotic design elements, and a futuristic feel,” according to the event’s website. That’s fair praise: Modern Yacht Design Group has been behind some wild concepts for yachts including one dubbed Hakuna Matata for late Pop Idol host Pop Idol’s Pop Idol host Simon Cowell and his partner Terri, in 2007.
But for the buyers of the new boat, “the in-house architects of the concept yacht, included two yachts in the market,” said the yacht’s designer David Poch, who is also the owner of Modern Yacht Design Group. If that’s a hint that there will be multiple designs that need “acceptance” by yacht buyers, we’ll know the boat is good for business.
While the concept is completely open for feedback on social media, buyers are an easier crowd to win over:
Towards the back of this panned concept is a three-level seating space for 24 passengers and 41 crew. Eight cabins include a main passenger cabin, an optional main master suite, a main dining room, a main deck and a free-deck galley. — Rebecca Sloan, Features Editor, The Washington Post
The luxury luxury market for ultra high-end yachts has grown significantly since 2013, according to yacht brokerage Bill Hayes with Savills Studley in London. “It has been growing for some time now. Sales have been going up at very good rate,” Hayes said.
Some of the biggest offshore enthusiasts include the Dubai-based royal family of the United Arab Emirates, he said. And maybe they spotted the in-house architects of this fantasy creation.
