Tyson Fury: 'I am an all-time great fighter'

Tyson Fury refused to say in an interview with the Daily Mail newspaper on Tuesday that he was the “greatest heavyweight boxer of the last 30 years.”

“You know what, I’m not going to answer that question to you,” the former world heavyweight champion replied. “You can sit there and say whatever you want but Tyson Fury is not the greatest heavyweight boxer of the last 30 years, it’s a topic that people have pushed for years and years now. It is something I have been strong about for years now and I think I am an all-time great fighter, but I don’t think you want to go down that road.”

Fury, who turned professional in 2009, had a reputation as a hot head during his boxing career which led him to abandon the idea of a title fight last year, only to later announce he would be returning to the ring.

Fury lost his WBA “super” heavyweight title to Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015 in what he described as “a mistake.” The Briton was charged with a doping offense by UK Anti-Doping in July 2016, but was cleared to fight in July 2017, about two months after his loss to Klitschko. He has since said his defeat to Klitschko “took away” his love for boxing.

Fury also appeared on Saturday Night Live in December 2016, alongside John Cena, to promote his return to the ring.
