Will Jonah Hill, Natalia Tena and Sarah Snook's new project The Succession be on BBC One?

It’s almost halfway into The Succession pilot season and New Line Television’s project may have already proven to be one of the very best to make it to screen, if the official synopsis is anything to go by.

“A trio of ambitious offspring battle to become the next leader of the plutocratic Roman empire and end up changing the course of their family history,” the plot summary reads. “It all starts when Connor (Jonah Hill) thinks his aggressive ambitions will allow him to take the family company private; Will (Hugo Becker) enters the top job as the company’s chief executive; and Malcolm (Nicholas Braun) is the heir apparent.”

The Handmaid’s Tale actress Sarah Snook and Genesis’ Natalia Tena, meanwhile, play Connor’s sister Zita and Evelyn, Will’s wife and Malcolm’s fiancĂ©e. Watch a trailer for the project below:

The mastermind behind The Succession is Emmy-winning screenwriter and Veep creator Armando Iannucci and executive producer Danny Strong, who are both already on the books to work on the forthcoming season of Game of Thrones with David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

With those kind of credentials behind it, Iannucci’s show has already pulled in a line-up of impressive talent that includes and Jonah Hill, Kieran Culkin and Nick Thurston (who you may know from House of Cards and Westworld).

And should The Succession be picked up for a full series, you can be certain that the four major characters will have joined forces long before they filmed the pilot, with it even being reported that Strong suggested at a panel at the Television Critics Association this year that his nephew, Greg Fisher, would “tune in for the first episode and wonder if his cousin has killed his friends and family”.

“If a show succeeds, there are normally a couple of such characters in it,” he added. “And that’s one of the most enjoyable parts of it, the unexpected betrayal.”

With Josh Brener (Silicon Valley) and Sarah Snook joining the cast as Zita’s boyfriend and Paul Giamatti (Behind the Candelabra) playing Malcolm’s grandfather, have we finally found one of the truly dysfunctional families to be obsessed by at the top of our minds?
